About TE

The Transition approach empowers communities to squarely face the challenges of peak oil and climate change, and to unleash the collective genius of their own people plus thematic communities they are part of to find the answers to this momentous question:

For all those aspects of life that this community needs in order to sustain itself and thrive, how are we going to:
  • drastically reduce carbon emissions (in response to climate change);
  • significantly rebuild resilience (in response to peak oil);
  • and greatly strengthen our local economy (in response to economic instability)?

Transition Initiatives make no claim to have all the answers, but by building on the wisdom of the past and accessing the pool of ingenuity, skills and determination in our communities, the solutions can readily emerge. Now is the time for us to take stock and start re-creating our future in ways that are not based on cheap, plentiful and polluting oil but on localized food, sustainable energy sources, resilient and self-feeding local economies and an enlivened sense of community well-being.

Transition Europe The idea that the internet can be used to support Transition Initiatives is not new, and there are many controversial ways how to do it best. A very famous example are the Transition Towns Wikis. All approaches have their weaknesses and their strengths. The idea of a chain of national, regional and local SOCIAL NETWORKS allowing people to spot each other, getting in touch with each other, was originated by Les Squires and communicated to us by Sandi Brockway, Founder of Macrocosm USA. Transition Europe in particular acts like a catalyzer for the emergence of national social networks, we starded do install Transition Austria, then came Transition Italy and so on. They are supposed to communicate in their national language, whereas we use TE and the English Language to create a connecting community across Europa.
